Oh, a little stabbing now and then never hurt anybody.
The solution is not to shut down the business, it’s to arrest and imprison those people who choose to break the law. Anything else is treating the symptoms and not the root cause. The criminals will just go somewhere else and break the law, are you going to shut that down too? The criminals are the entire problem, not the business.

Yup, I remember when all of those cracked-out zombies used to hang out just a block away, at 34th and 8th Ave. Now they’ve set up right outside that McDonald’s and right around the corner on 35th too.
I’ve witnessed them and their movements every day for the past 8 years
Shutting down a business will just make them move yet again to a nearby location.

You could argue that arresting people could also be ‘treating the symptoms, and not the root cause.’ Yes, criminals absolutely should be arrested, but once they complete their sentence, then what? Mass incarceration isn’t a panacea for criminality. They’ll be back to doing the same thing if the problems that lead to criminality are not addressed. The only way to fix the root cause of problems is to bring back extensive psychiatric treatment for those with emotional or behavioral problems, and address community conditions such as poverty, unemployment, etc. Of course, it won’t be a solution for everyone, but it can address a lot of problems and reduce the incidence of violent crime.
With that latest stabbing, the shocker is that the perpetrator wasn’t even from the city. Florida should keep its trash to itself.
The victim, who was staying at a nearby hotel, was apparently eating when he got into a dispute with 25-year-old Juan Mercedes of Florida.

If you lock them up, they’re not committing crimes. It’s their choice to break the law. There is no need to feel sorry for them, as they chose this.
And yes, bringing back the insane asylums would help a lot, but we collectively decided we wanted to get rid of them. Part of the consequence of that is locking many of those folks in prison. Perhaps we should revisit that folly and bring them back. Until then, prison.
