Thanks for reposting that @mtoltethys, it’s a good reminder for 007.
It wasn’t really an official proposal as it was just a feasibility study for the site, the height as shown is around ~ 930’, so not exactly a supertall, which could still happen in any scenario, it’s just completely up to how the massing is shaped and the program placement to how tall it will be. It’d be interesting to know what the parameters were for the feasibility study though.
That’s been up for discussion since 2021, but the LPC never took it up. If another attempt is made to try and landmark it, I personally don’t think it would go through before the developers start to redevelop the site.
Relative to the site’s dimensions, that design would be around 650’ tall. Relative to your 1900’ figure, it would be 630’ wide, which would be impossible to build in Manhattan because there are no such lots of those dimensions that exist. But Mackensen has said that drawing is not to scale.
Just a little pipe dream of mine-- how I would build a tower on this site while preserving as much of the Roosevelt’s historic facade and massing as possible. Heavily influenced by a bunch of architecture I like or buildings with similar contexts, e.g. 175 Park Ave, Hearst Tower, Tower Fifth, and Yamasaki’s Rainier Tower.
I designed this based around looks only, so I don’t know if the floor area, dimensions, and ceiling heights are consistent with the zoning in this area. I’ve put the height at approximately 1400’ for my model, based on TKDV’s analysis of this site having the same specifications as One Vanderbilt.
Thank you very much everyone, I am glad you like my design!
It is just my fantasy and nothing official, but if any architecture firm or developer happens to be browsing YIMBY, feel free to nick any part of this concept (especially if it means saving the Roosevelt’s facade)
