Yes, because if ever there was an enemy of ā€œwokenessā€ it was surely one Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thanks for the much-needed laugh @infoshare!

All you need to do to understand the contact of this columnist’s character is to replace each instance of ā€œwokeā€/ā€œwokenessā€ with its meaning: ā€œsocial justiceā€.

ā€œIt may be a sign that the rapid rise of [social justice] in America has reached its peak and is slumping down the other side of the cultural hill. We can hope, anyway.ā€

Fox News loves the term ā€œwokeā€ because it gives them cover to say what they mean: social justice is evil and we should use every means available to dismantle it.

And social justice is in and of itself a dog whistle for the other side of the isle.

But the last time I checked this wasn’t a politics subforum, and the politics talked about in that (heavily biased) article have absolutely nothing to do with this project. I don’t know why infoshare thought it was a good idea to share it. (And especially from FOX news? I mean seriously)

Several people on this forum have showed who they are and their true nature over the past few years and I choose to believe them (as Maya Angelou would say).

I understand it may be hard to avoid in this thread given the developer’s own statements, but I think we should stick to the development/architecture side of things instead of getting too much into politics/culture issues. There are not a lot of places left on the internet that don’t derail into constant political bickering and personally I’d like to keep this forum away from that. (Of course certain issues like housing policy make total sense to discuss here).

All I am gonna say is how did we go from 007 saying nothing is going to get built on this site for decades to talking about MLK and woke stuff. :joy: :joy:

On topic of the actual development, although I admire the developer for his commitment to building big and bold (he clearly wants to make a statement) I think this project won’t be built here. Hochul seems committed to adding affordable housing to the RFP whether it makes sense or not. There are not a lot of NIMBYs on the far west side so perhaps she figures it would be an easy win to get affordable housing built here instead of somewhere which actually needs to densify but has powerful anti-development forces. Affordable housing doesn’t make sense to include in this design, so Peebles may be out of luck here. What makes this tower different is Peebles’ commitment to this project, I remember he even floated finding a new site. Perhaps he can build it in midtown east when the economy improves.

Thanks DeSelby. Some of the recent commentary is a bit out of place here.

next week wednesday could start a new RFP.

…or it will take months

and here??? still nothing new since March.

the potential is on Park Ave.

why should affordable housing be created everywhere?

Because it’s good public policy to provide housing for as many as possible and there is no reason to stash the least well off among us in a large grouping off by them selves. We tried that in the 50s to 70s and it was a disaster.

but why here? there would have been a nice supertall…

Pish posh. Putting in below market rate housing gives a developer more square footage. This is not a super tall issue, your compulsive fixation.

In defense of 007, he’s a very young guy. We could be his grandfathers.

Affirmation Tower would be a giant if placed somewhere on Park Avenue

Either way, I hope we get to see the other potential designs on this eventually :+1:
