I can’t wait to see what Morris Adjmi will cook up for this context.
Well, that’s lovely. I am amazed how many of those ‘tax payer’ (aka. place holder) buildings are still around on Manhattan Island: plenty of underutilized properties available to be upgraded or replaced.
This is the quite a different style of living than those tall condo towers; no views, but more intimate.
The area by NYU is really beautiful.
Gorgeous! I’ve been disappointed with several of Adjmi’s recent New York projects, but this is beautiful. I’ll have to get out and give this a look. Thanks for the photos, @Alemel
Wow, great architecture and great photos - thanks all around.
That brickwork is a truly rare sight to see in modern day construction. I do not often see that kind of subtle detailing and perfect execution on most new construction with brick facades. I think we can reasonably assume that this is all ‘hand laid’ brick. Bravo to the builders and craftworkers who made this masterpiece possible.
BTW. I recently noticed some equally beautiful brickwork in Chelsea: this was done years ago when this type of trade craftwork was more common. If you like seeing this type of artistry in construction; go to see the Church on the corner of 21st Street and 10th Avenue.
These photos show some equally exquisite brickwork: but you need to see this one in person to truly appreciate the subtle features of this facade.
One particularly nice feature is the way most of the brick is ‘deliberately’ not laid flat/even - but slightly offset on many random bricks to add textures, shadows, and other subtle surface variations.
Church of the Guardian Angels…
Six ave. and 14th is also going for this level of brickwork - I hope it become a trend
