This looks eerily similar to this ATCHAIN post back in 2019 in the 270 Park thread
Thank God for Ken Griffin’s ego! I knew he would never let Dimon have the taller tower.
The tower will be about 1,600 feet tall, a spokesperson for the development team told CoStar News. That would rank it as the city’s second-tallest building, among existing skyscrapers, just after the 1,776-foot-tall One World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.
Awesome news.
This would be the tallest tower in Hong Kong.
Looks like a mix between Foster’s 270 Park Avenue and 50 UN Plaza with its rounded corners and ‘bookshelf’ form! Oddly, I really like how it fits with 270 and the Midtown East skyline but its massing looks very awkward by itself.
Massing also reminds of 2wtc just down to the south… it gets repeatitive honestly.
I like the massing of this more than 270 Park… it really soars, while 270 can appear too fat and squat sometimes (although overall I like it).
I feel there has been a downgrade from Pelli’s Penn15 to Foster Penn15’s and there has been another downgrade from the original 350 Park Ave design to this one …
I hope Foster to get more creative for the PABT TOWERS and the rest of the Penn district otherwise Manhattan will look like a Chinese planned City by Foster …
Yoooo!!!
I like the blend of curvature with verticality in the new design. But I think the facade is a little bland. It needs some more texture or a crown like 270 park has
The curves do look good. But I kind of think in totality this feels out of place in Midtown East. This would have been a perfect complement to the Manhattan West twins and the Hudson Yards. But the rest of the great towers in this area have masonry or metal facades, hard angles, and very little blue glass.
The bottom looks very… retro-futuristic in design! It’s something that could’ve been part of a fantasy building in the 1970s but instead got reimagined with what looks like a top-heavy 111 W 57th without the terracotta (or creativity in design) At least the first design looked different (and futuristic). Now it’s just Another Tall Building
This design is ok but the original diamond design is still my favorite. This one looks like a bigger glass version of Steinway tower or if 270 was split in the middle.
This project has literally never made sense in regards to floor count, every single iteration has had 70 floors (+/- 1 or 2) and every time a new iteration has come out theres always some random number thrown out (like with the previous one where the article thought it had 50 just because there were only 50 visible in the render…).
And the height has always been in the 1400’ range, so i dont think anything in regards to floor/floor height has changed more so that they just added 150’- 200’ of height to the top of it.
The renders dont depict a 1600’ tall tower, even when factoring in that the sides slope inward like those at 270 due to zoning.
After sleeping on it I don’t dislike the design as much as the location. Like others have said it would fit better elsewhere. I actually might like this more for 2WTC tbh. It would have either stood out against the rigidity and straight lines of the other towers or clashed but either way it wouldn’t look like its doppelgänger is down the street.
But 1600’ tall, can’t complain too much about that. The New York skyline is where egos go to fight.
1600 FEET
In my opinion this is just another placeholder rendering, they will release the final rendering in a few years.
Let’s see which high-end supertall will be unveiled next in Midtown Tower Fifth, 45 East 45th Street, or 625 Madison Avenue…
I’m wondering what the time table is on this project. Time length for expected demo, general length, projected time line for construction. Would it be bullish to say 2032 completion, 2028 project start, and demo 2026 to late 2027? Assuming one to one and a half years for the public approval process and all the red tape rubbish from inception to steel in the ground?
I believe there was already an established timeline in the agreement between Vornado/Rudin and Citadel.
I’ve heard a new design might be in play for 2WTC, perhaps hinting at why Foster is okay to use such similar massing on this tower.
You may elaborate
A new design? Do they even have a tenant close yet?
