Looks so much better without the geegaw light effects.

Agreed. The razzle dazzle light show makes it look cheap, like it’s renting out rooms by the hour

They should reserve it for occasions but Chase just wants to show off their building.

In a way that’s what they do.

The NY Times wrote a piece on 270 Park Ave. It isn’t criticizing it but goes into detail about its lighting scheme.

We also now know why the British flag was on display.

For a party in November honoring King Charles III (who did not attend), the building displayed the Union Jack.

And there is a name for the default glittery light scheme.

Most of the time, the lights show “Celestial Passage,” a display of sparkling geometric patterns that resembles a screen saver seen through a glass of champagne.

Good grief, those “sparkling” animations are the default? What a colossal display of bad taste. I mean, “a screen saver seen through a glass of champagne” strikes me as perilously close to PR-speak for “lipstick on a pig.” I’d laugh if this thing weren’t so prominent. Sigh.

And “mountainous lump” — a good phrase from the Guardian. Captures well the way the building eschews the soaring elegance and finely wrought detail of NYC classics in favor of simple, brute mass.

Looks cool idc.

Count me in as another that like the lighting scheme as is. But also like the plain warm white one too.

I like the modern “sparkling” lighting schemes. I’ve been in Ubers on my way from JFK and Newark at night and the lighting looks fantastic.

I had to pick people up from EWR, and on the way home, I saw both 270 and 1&2 Manhattan West with their animated lights. They’re a delight and look great. Even on occasion the ESB has glittery lights.

What a load of nonsense. Just like the article it reeks of pretentiousness from nothing and trying to fill a word count

Oh yes, I fully expected my comment to ruffle a few feathers. (I even had a good idea to whom those feathers might belong.) That, of course, wasn’t the intention behind my post – after all, I was simply trying to express an opinion, however nonsensical – but I did expect it.

As for pretentious? Guilty as charged, I’m afraid!
