Wow. This is the epitome of NYC and how it should look everywhere

Not the best quality shot, but I love how the vertical lines are so pronounced with this low winter light

I’ve noticed that strangely it’s not uniform (which adds to the appeal IMO).

What are the odds that the person responsible for is on a PIP?

They’ve started installing desks on floors above the second set of mechanical floors (just after the first setback), so seems like first wave of employees will be moving there in the next few months?

Great movie base don a great book.

Posted a few photos of 270 sketches from the Norman Foster exhibition in Paris a while back, but I recently found another in my camera roll I forgot about. This one depicts a much more developed design featuring an alternate version of the crown, based on a much more densely-packed diamond pattern. Looks to be a precursor to the lantern LED system we’ll (hopefully) see on the final building.

Also I find it interesting that the design was still being finalized external wise during the start of the demolition work

They’ve removed a lot of fencing and material around to complete the northern half of the 47th St reconstruction so things are now more visible.

You can see the large elevation change from the level of the entry vestibule doors on Park from sidewalk level, of which all the green foam insulation will account for the build up. So this is a precursor that the Park Ave side of the lot will begin to take shape soon.

Nothing much new with the tower itself

Still not a fan of the stone’s appearance atm. I’ll note that the hole on the left hand side of the images looking down 47th St is the opening down into the new LIRR entrance. A long glass rectangular box will cover this.

I cant wait until the Madison Ave sidewalk is redone, its horrendous right now in its current condition, I’m pretty sure I’ve almost twisted my ankle from all the uneven surfaces and cracks along the little narrow path.

This is the time for sturdy shoes.

That is a great photo set above with all the detailed (close up) photos. Here is a view from afar (Long Island City) for a bit of contrast.

I actually do like the “design” of the stonework on the lower level of the facade; it just looks cool for lack of a better term.

Looking at the design of that stonework led me to wondering what exactly is “design” - here is an interesting link to share on that subject.

Enjoy the article…
