This is fairly standard for those columns which are located at the mechanical floors as they will be partially open/exposed to the elements, beams have also been galvanized on the other mech floors.
This same type of method took place on the Comcast Technology Center (by Foster) during construction. Once a good amount of cladding was up, the angled metal was installed. So I actually believe we could see them not long from now

Thank you, I had no idea but it certainly makes sense. You are a wealth of knowledge and I have learned much from your posts.
That image really shows the great height of the floors below each setback, of course the ceiling will lessen that impact, but they’re still incredibly tall, maybe 15’ in the end, which is the normal F:F height for the regular office floors in this tower. The photo also shows the absurdly complex nodes at the mech/outrigger floor above/at the setback.
@GSPLover, thanks, I’m glad to be able to help But yes, generally you will almost always see galvanized steel used in those portions of buildings which will be exposed to the elements, which is why One Vanderbilt’s crown is basically all galvanized because it’s open air/not entirely enclosed.
Here near the top right under the safety cocoon you can see the line of galvanized beams at the previous mech/outrigger floor.
My images from yesterday were no different than any one elses I will note though that on the south side the facade hanging platforms are starting to be dismantled and have been reinstalled higher up, which is probably why there’s been a lull on that side. Still greatly anticipating the louvered panels.
Looked like they installed a few panels on the mechanical floor below the first true office floor when I walked by. Saw it on the north side of park. Can anyone confirm?
Already? They had to install cladding on 2 more levels before the mech level!
Theres 6 more rows of panels that have to be installed before the typical office floors are reached.
Sorry, I might be mislabeling here. I meant the floor below the first office floor of the building.
Ah! The strange circular honeycomb cladding? Sorry for misunderstanding
Well if you saw it then it’s certainly there! And you mentioned the north side which was the more ready side to receive the cladding.
Were you punished?
hahah -they probably wish I were late more often
Going to walk by and see if I can see any of the base cladding, it’s nice that it’s not dark by 6 now.
Edit
Well, there it is indeed lol, im pretty sure it’s metallic so it should catch the sun in the morning and other areas as the day progresses, but its pretty dark, kind of messy looking too.
nice!
Now that model on the right is a physical model you don’t really see. Seems to be a model of the steel structure, shows exactly what we’re going to see in the next coming months
