Is that the Seagram building that stands out in the 1959 photo?
I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s the original 270 Park Avenue that is standing out
You’re probably right, I thought it was mid-60s vintage but you’re right it was probably mostly built out by 1959.
I do think it’s a shame they tore it down even if what is replacing it is absolutely magnificent… it should have been 245 Park instead.

NewYorkCity76 is right, its 270, its really hard to tell and the image looks to be altered in some areas but i’m sure the Seagram building is the small white 3 lined blob to the upper left of 270. Its probably so bright due to construction lights as you are correct, the building wasnt completed until 1960, so the image was probably taken in the later half of 1959.
@SMCYB yeah, the NE crane started lifting itself up last Wed, so im surprised that it hasn’t continued rising as well as the others. But outside of that, fireproofing and concrete pouring have visibly started to move quicker. There should be 3 more floors until the midpoint of the tier is met and the diamond columns turn back the other direction. Its just unfortunate that that viewpoint is nearing the end to track vertical progress (though it can still be used for fireproofing and cladding progression up to a point as well.

New columns going up for the next two floors. With the next rise (after this) it will be out of the webcam’s frame. At least we’ll be able to see glass on the webcam once it starts.

Well distortion of the camera lense of course makes the building seem much large than it would appear to the human eye, it would look more like this in person though not as parallel in perspective.
