Community response, which is of course negative, is highlighted in this article. Opinion: To Protect Chinatown and the LES, Pass the Two Bridges Community Plan

This project and other surrounding projects are 100% full-steam ahead. Manhattan will have a new skyline rising.

Excavation Work Prepped at Two Bridges Development Site for New Towers

Quote:

No sooner were excavation permits issued than worksite preparations began on a controversial South Street development along the Lower East Side waterfront.

Indeed, Department of Buildings on Tuesday issued official approval to the Chetrit Group to begin foundation activities for its dual 70-story tower at 265 South. By yesterday evening, a perimeter fence was in place and a pile driver parked within.

Useless. They’re wasting their time. Pretty sure this project has already beaten legal challenges.

Thank you! Just showing what TF we’re up against every single day now in this city!

Whatever you want built in this city, will be faced by opposition even in the slightest. These people are bored, and oppose change.

A developer can propose a one-story property on an unused undeveloped land, and the entire community will oppose it. It’s a weird mentality to have.

This “Two Bridges” development will more than 99% likely move forward to completion. Their outrage/protests are just drops in a bucket.

I just posted a simple question to a guy complaining about this;

“How is this project going to be an ugly eyesore, exactly? What problems do you specifically have with the design?”

That guy will probably says things like “greed”, “ruins the skyline” or “construction noises”, not to mention he may question things like “affordable housing” or stuff.

Lol even I can’t answer that question because I’m all for development, so it’ll be funny if that guy won’t answer that simple question you asked.

So basically all the same failed complaints they’ve been making for decades.

Yeah that. Those typical NIMBY complaints

That top photo sends a clear message to the “community opposition” to this project; a project that is finally starting to break ground after years of community opposition.

The huge pile driver doing the excavation work is pictured directly in front of the “NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL” community meeting facility - an unintended, but funny, juxtaposition. :star_struck:

Great news.

A shorter scale “Twin Towers” themed development going on here. Of course, nothing should be compared to the Twin Towers, but it’s good to know that we will get a “pair” of towers that definitely stand out along the skyline.
