Vitruvius wrote that architecture must satisfy these three aspects together. The most familiar English phrasing—“firmness, commodity, and delight”. The Elements of Architecture, which drew partly on later Renaissance writers like Andrea Palladio.
An equivalent modern gloss is durability, utility, and beauty.
