I wouldnt say they’d be removed more than the second part and just reconfigured past the 2nd floor as the same is being done with the 2 on the west side that are inset. But it is a wonder if the 2 front stumps would remain since they do not conform to the shape of the newest design. But in general there’d be quite a few changes than just the 4 columns youve highlighted of which transfering columns is relatively easy.
I expect the first sign of reconstruction to be the temporary planters being removed and/or the beer garden closing and then the fences would come as they’d envelope the entire lot.
@Arik ah yes, thank you for reminding me of that feature, it was kind of haphazardly broken spiraling that ended at the 3rd tier.
I was hearing silverstein talking about photovoltaic cells powering some of the building, in the video above, and it makes me think that the horizontal lines that cover up the south half of the tower’s cladding are like solar panel blinds.
Could have used the diamonds as a solar panel, though…
I really hope it’s built to 1350’. The Twin Towers were a wonder because of their sheer volume, height, and proximity to each other. I want 2WTC to be bulky (thicc) and at least 1300’ to restore that presence.
If the tower is built to the projected 1348’ it would actually appear as tall as One WTC due to the elevation change, the height seems intentional to make it seem the same height.
If they designed a new radome for 1 WTC this wouldn’t be much of an issue because the spire would be much more substantial up to the 1776’ height than it already is. Oh well.
Every time this post pops up, I’m reminded of the former 2WTC design and keep hoping it’ll one day get built. At this point, ANYTHING would be better than the stump we’ll likely keep seeing for the next 2-5+ years
Things that I want to see happen: Large open lobby, an outdoor observation deck at the very top rising at least 1350 feet, and a multi floor restaurant with outdoor seating on those 3 upper terraces in the latest design.

I hope that Silverstein may finally make some headway with this iteration, it’s a very worthy design for the site and a handsome companion to 3WTC in particular.
This really gives an accurate scale of just how much of an impact 2WTC would have on downtown! Well done! I still would’ve preferred the original diamond design, but this current iteration has been growing on me!
I agree. As long as it’s executed nicely with good lighting, facade materials and glass, it’ll really enhance Downtown. It’s certainly a major improvement over what BIG proposed which was terrible and didn’t fit the area.
100%!! That BIG design looked clumsy and WAY too bland / corporate compared to what could’ve been (an otherwise striking and iconic building that had a purpose for its design)
I only hope this gets going in 2024 and is finished in time for the 25th anniversary
I have to agree in preferring the original diamonds design overall – having been designed so much closer to the aftermath of the attacks and with the Libeskind masterplan freshly conceived, the 2006 design had much more symbolic connection to the complex than those that followed. The latest leaked iteration still fits the spiral scheme and the Wedge of Light floorplan, but is a much more pragmatic design aimed more directly at office tenants of the 2020s.
Nice renders! Those vertical reflective/illuminated “fins” add some flare to what ultimately looks like a conglomeration of Central Park Tower variants. I just hope this gets going in 2024!
