It looks like it compliments the ESB, One Vanderbilt, and the Chrysler building well  :fire:

No renderings were shown in the meeting tonight. They said they’d be back in early 2021 to go over the design of the tower.

It was mentioned that the 1646’ massing model is just that–it does not dictate what the final tower will look like.

They also said the new 500 room Grand Hyatt will be at the top of the tower making it the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere.

Below is a graphic of the wrap around public terrace that was presented in tonight’s meeting:

Ha, beat me to it. The next Landmarks meeting is scheduled for January 5th at the same time, so we won’t have to wait too long.

Not sure how many of these renderings of the future transit hall/passageways have already been seen, so apologies if these are reposts from this thread or from YIMBY.

The new underground connections between the 4/5/6/7 station, Metro-North and Eastside Access seem pretty major to me. For the Eastside Access hallway, they’re repurposing disused turnaround tracks.

Is the new connection to Metro North to the upper or lower level of the current Grand Central?

I also noticed that they said the 1100 feet or 1646 feet render is not indicative of the future height, meaning that the future tower would be either height or something in between…

I believe it’s the upper — if I understood the presentation correctly, the whole complex in the diagram above is on the first floor below the street level.

Wow this seems to be a sizeable expansion of the current transit footprint. I notice that they even brought the fare control upstairs into the expanded hall behind were the stores currently are.

So there will be new stairways or escalators that will go right into the main concourse? If so, where will they be - right between the info booth and the escalators to the MetLife building? And will this lead to blockage of parts of the lower-level concourse?

Or maybe this subway connection will be further east, closer to the Lexington Passage?

Think the escalators to the Metlife building are towards the top of the last illustration by the word Improvements

If they said that the massing model of the tower was just indicative, maybe that the door for an Art Deco inspired design with setbacks, ornamentations and an impressive crown remembering the neighbouring Chrysler Building is still open. A crown or a spire would seem logical in my opinion because I don’t know a lot of skyscrapers with so few floors for a height approching 1650 ft. But admitting that the design wouldn’t be as amazing as expected ,the location and the building prominence are widely enough to dramaticaly change New York Skyline forever, even more with potential future supertalls coming to Midtown East such as 343 Madison Ave, 250 Park Avenue or Roosevelt Hotel sites, aditionned with 270 Park Ave under construction. I think people aren’t ready for this … :star_struck:

Another design on the theme of Grand Hyatt:

The models are not correct in scale

One Lexington or Grand Hyatt

Facade detail between the first and second setbacks.
