Even in that render it looks about 1586 not 1646.

Apparently there was an internal design competition at SOM for this tower, which was won by TJ Gottesdeiner of SOM’s NYC office.

The 5 losing designs, plus the initial concept for the winner (the third one):

Damn I love that sixth design.

The last three are gorgeous and the second one is interesting as well.

Same here!

Yeah — we don’t have a lot of detail but at a glance, nos. 2 and 6 are ones I would have liked better than the chosen design.

Some interesting ones. But the one we got was definitely the best one imo.

Love the 5th design.

For me #2 is 350 Park without the spires.

I love the 6th one too. The design we got, when looking at the rejected ones, seemed to be the one that they could successfully defend as “appropriate” for the site.

I’d love to see #6 somewhere else in Manhattan though! Its like a taller and stretched 1-2 Manhattan West.

Would love to see that design go up somewhere, but there aren’t exactly lots of candidates.

I would take any one of those over the leaked 2 WTC proposals.

I’m gonna need #4 to be built ASAP

You know what I just realized, #3 and #5 look like they were phased together and the final result was the proposed tower. If someone can bring that up on skyscraper page, I don’t have an account on there

Final vote from City Council is tomorrow. This is a guaranteed pass, so no need to worry about it.

Not only that, you can see the curved “spread curtain” base on #4. So #3, #4, and #5 were merged together to make the final design. The final base looks like they merged the bases on designs 3 & 4.

My god that base is a masterpiece. Can’t believe we’re actually getting that.

If this does gets passed, any idea when demolition and construction could begin?
