I love the intellectual/political discussions that pop up on this forum.
I agree Robert, China is in no place to overthrow us yet, although I wouldn’t be surprised if a post-communist iteration overtakes us in the long term future. They aren’t ready for their breakout moment until this awful government gets thrown out, we see Xi & co.’s stupidity and arrogance in their current foreign policy which according to many analysts could easily trigger a medium-intensity conflict with US or our allies in the next couple decades…
Anyhow, their current boom stuff will experience a crash before they gain stability. But they are the obvious next contender for global supremacy— like America in the 1800s, flawed and semi developed but with promise.
Europe and the Arab states are toast IMO, idk how others feel on that
I don’t think there will be any progress on the democratization of China in the future. I am from China and I am extremely pessimistic about it. It’s not progressing at all. Today there is almost no freedom of speech in China and all medias whether private or the state-owned are working under the “rules”. In this case there will be no different voice but somehow they make you feel like there are different “voices”. So there’s actually almost no demand of democracy in China. It’s hard to explain, just strong propaganda. It can turn the facts upside down. Today most Chinese people think democracy as a bad thing because that is the public opinion. If you ask why ask the man who controls everything of China. About any progress or demand of democratization you can check Tiananmen Event in 1989. At that point China was so close to democracy. Unfortunately it failed. The People’s Liberation Army shot the people on the street and they put the General Secretary Zhao Ziyang into home arrest because he supported the political reform. I disagree with that there will be any demand of democracy in China when people become rich. Imagine how poor China was in 1989 but people still demanded political reforms, democracy and freedom.
Beautiful. Someone should post this render to SkyscraperPage as soon as possible! Also, some of the stale proposals including One Park Lane should be removed.
My only complaint about this building is the color. SIlver seems boring, would be so much more cooler if the facade was gold/bronze like 45 broad street and 270 park avenue
Still subject to change depending on how they do the mechanical but we are looking at a minimum, 1600’.
The renderings or massing’s relative to 1 Vanderbilt are not 100% to scale, with 175 Park actually being a tad bit larger/taller. This hasn’t changed since the CB-5 meeting, and much of the material used was the same with the exception of some footnotes or text boxes added.
