This has started - the general contractor is mobilized on site.

They have dug a deeper hole since that photo. I am most looking forward to that public park when the old building is gone
the hole is really deep now… you can see palisades bedrock… wonder if they will have to blast some of that out or if that will cause any issues?
The site closer to NJ 139 will have caissons since it goes directly above NJ Transit and Conrail tunnels. But yes, they are digging deep. Blasting happens very very rarely in the city - this is all done by equipment. They have been pouring and prepping the foundations now
Maybe I am confused - NJ Transit tunnel is to the north of 139 since it enters palisades near boarder of Hoboken / Jersey City? Conrail lines go through the Bergan Arches don’t they?
A tunneled portion of the Bergen Arches go under the justice complex site. In the Arches, NJT owns the ground, Conrail owns the air. This is an inactive line.
The Long Dock Tunnel is in the mix here too, an active Conrail line.
The active NJT line into Hoboken is, as you correctly pointed out, north of this area.
Yeah, it’s huge! Things are moving very quickly. Foundations for the main building should be underway and the area by 139 is being prepped for the garage foundations in a month or two. Exciting stuff! Can’t wait to see what the site will look like by the end of the year.
Things are going quickly on the site circulation cores are going up soon. Big press event soon as well, for a large concrete pour on the foundations.
After all this, next up should be the parking garage foundations that will be worked on. Garage building soon after once they get that permit through. The yellow piling machine in the distance on the left is where the garage is starting.
Structural steel should be up next. Waiting on those permits
