JERSEY CITY | 2966 Kennedy Blvd (Imperial Tower) | 592 FT | 55 FLOORS

They are digging for real now. And rebar is on site…does anyone know what it would be used for at this stage?

Should be for the foundation when it is eventually poured. May also be used for foundational retaining walls. Also could just be site storage for the future, but my bet is on foundation.

It does seem to be for the foundation. Building permit issued today. This one is moving relatively fast from demolition to excavation to construction.

Not sure if I’ve seen this type of foundation before on a skyscraper in Jersey City.

It took less than a month from demolition to first foundation columns. Meanwhile 501 Summit Ave broke ground more than half a year ago and still doesn’t have any foundation or footings installed…

I believe a stop work order was put on this last week or so due to developer negligence of the surrounding area (mostly in regards to sloppy and unsafe construction work on their other ongoing projects in Jersey City). Hopefully it starts up again soon.

The stop-work order was cleared several days ago. Seen work ongoing every time I’ve passed by during the day this week.

So much happening near Journal Square!

If this continues some more years, I wonder if Journal Square could one day rival Downtown Jersey City… at least in heft, if not in height

The city’s master plan specifically aims to develop Journal Square into a second urban core (similar to downtown). That’s why you’re seeing this kind of development getting approved in the area as opposed to say the Greenville neighborhood.
