The height here would be great and the black cladding is refreshing but why Chicago can’t just have buildings that meet the street within the footprint of the tower is beyond my ability to comprehend. So much prime land is wasted with these podium appendages that sprawl from the tower portion. I was hoping Fulton Market was immune to this design form but all of the tallest proposals have them. For once it would have been nice to just have densely built mid and high-rises without the forced gaps between developments to accommodate parking.
I think the designs of 1200 W Carroll Avenue are great! I love the new layout, and I’m excited to see what will be made with the space. It’s also very modern, which I think represents our new neighborhood really well.
