Late afternoon from the west hills webcam.
Once everything that is under construction/proposed, will Austin officially break into the top 10 skylines in the US? The top 6 skylines in order are pretty in-arguable, but I feel like there are alot that jostle for the remaining spots, sort of based on personal preference.
I tend toward yimbyism from an urban planning perspective (density, walkability, convenience, street-level experience, etc), and am not really up on skylines or skyscraper counts. Is there an accepted “big 6”? Are we just talking about number of towers or general aesthetics?
The first few are obvious, but after that I’m curious to hear people’s opinions on rankings

- Chicago
- Miami? Seattle? SF? Denver? Boston?

Los Angeles, Houston, Philly and Dallas are in there. I think Austin will pass Boston, Philly and Dallas when the current U/Cs are completed.
Seattle is definitely up there, it has a huge number of mid rises that a lot of other cities like LA and Houston don’t.
here is a list from wikipedia: American cities with at least 5 completed skyscrapers over 500 feet (152 meters) high as of October 2024.
LA has a ton of midrises. They’re just scattered all over the place… like Houston.
(Nerd alert: I just scanned the diagrams on SSP. Houston has 526 listed buildings between 100 and 499 feet tall. I’m sure LA is similar… plus all the metro areas like Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Long Beach, etc.).
… and welcome to the forum, ideeazz.
Cool rainbow over downtown Austin yesterday.
And a short (sadly vertical) video.
