The flag is flying above and the streets are bustling below: lovely day. It quite possible that one of the forum members (or Mods) are one of the people in that street scene - you never know.. :innocent:

PS. Wrong thread - go to 989 6th Avenue… :grimacing:

Yes, I’m currently visiting the big city again to take a few pictures on the side.

based on the latest photos, id feel pretty confident that the tower crane will be up by thanksgiving

Apologies I’m a bit confused on this, is this two separate projects with construction on either side or are both sites related to the torch

Both sides are part of The Torch. They are wrapping around some holdouts (the older buildings).

for some reason I was assuming the eastern face would be flush with the adjacent properties, guess not

Initially I did too, but its a big enough site that this one doesn’t need an offset core and devs probably think the sites to the East will be redeveloped at some point. To ensure East face remains useful, set back from those adjacent sites.

I’m already feeling wary this thing is gonna look cheap as hell.

What makes you say that looking at these pics?
I see some interesting formwork on the floorplates.
In any case, I believe this one will be uglier than cheap.

forming all those tangent lines is a lot of work.

the quality of the glass is really going to decide this thing.

Spectacle-driven, architecture-as-entertainment. What could possibly go wrong….”and may I please request a quiet room by the elevator bank?”

Not a fun addition to the view for the Marriot revolving restaurant.

You know if it looked entirely blue, I might have to like this building.
