NEW YORK | The Torch (740 8th Ave) | 1029 FT | 52 FLOORS

With any luck it will be scrapped.

I’m not a huge fan either but if there is a ‘right’ place for this building it’s here close to Times Square.

Personally I like it better than the current design for Penn 15.

A street-level rendering I made with StreetView imagery as the context, showing the view eastwards from W 46th Street.

Xing, can you make a rendering of the Fifth Ave facade of 262 Fifth? Your renderings of this project make it seem decent. I’m curious about 262.

Is this stupid thing actually getting built?

The top portion of this tower looks powerful looking in that render!

They are always very active every week when I walk past.

its quite a substantial foundation, so its no surprise this is taking as long as it is. however, i do wonder if extell has set some limits on the volume they can complete each month as the building is getting capped at the foundation for the time being.

I like everything better than the current design for Penn 15 so…

I’m having a hard time picturing how it will attract Times Square tourists on a street that currently feels nothing like Times Square and also who wants to ride a roller coaster in Hell’s Kitchen. My only idea is maybe if they get a casino license one day it will feel more exciting.

be serious, this building is less than 800 feet from the center of times square, and will have no problem attracting visitors. this section of 8th avenue is consistently teeming with tourists already, especially before and immediately after showtimes. adding a massive hotel/retail/tourist attraction to the block will only make the area busier

As much as I dislike this building, this is correct. The ride will be an attraction unto itself.

I’m sure this won’t curse the ride in any way.

I can imagine therapists providing ride tickets as a form of a prescription to their patients seeking acrophobia cures. The time tested trick of facing your fears. Right next to the 2nd treatment option, forcing someone to stand on the see-through-glass floor at 30 Hudson. :stethoscope:

Hard to see much from the street, but foundation work is well underway.

Good thing nothing is playing at the Imperial theater. The matinee noise would be tremendous.

Construction? In New York? No way

Didn’t realize I walked past this every day for work. For some reason they boarded up a window looking into the property and tore down the documents on the wall?
