They did take down the tower crane recently so the project hasn’t been completely abandoned.
But something definitely went very, very wrong here…

Eh. Tower cranes are rented, right? Leaving one idle on site costs serious money. It could just as easily have been taken down because the project was abandoned.

In a Yimby article from a couple months ago they said it wasn’t needed anymore, IIRC, so I was hoping it represented that the project was still on.

But your suggestion makes as much if not more sense so I guess only time will tell…

One Seaport is most definitely still on, work continuing apace. Glass curtain wall is being hung. Not a chance in hell this would be abandoned. Most of the units have already been sold.

Yup. The glass is progressing and the hoists were moving yesterday.

I’ve seen the hoists moving too, but doesn’t that glass look the same as photos from the fall?

Yeah. I think you are right now that I look more closely.

Same. I see zero new glass since Oct. That’s not good.

A mediocre project this one. A badly value-engineered ‘Aqua’-derivative design with overflowing helpings of delays and mismanagement.

Not to mention I hate when two projects go up on adjacent sites at the same time with no apparent design collaboration.

The blank concrete shear wall is unholy. The hotel next door came out nice and has been open a while. If Fortis wasn’t in a financial position to build this they should have sold the site to the hotel. Its a year behind schedule.

the blank wall is there to account for 80 South Street. It will disappear… eventually. I bet they’re up shits creek in legal trouble after the worker fell to his death (rip) and the DOB went in and found a myriad of issues.

The New York City Department of Buildings issued a stop work order on Sept. 21 when 36-year-old construction worker Juan Chonillo fell to his death. After the accident, the DOB found “numerous immediately hazardous conditions” at the site

Why is construction not progressing?

I am late to the party, so missed out on the fun. I had no knowledge of this UC building, interesting project, for sure: nor did I know about the obvious construction complications at play. I need to check-in with YIMBY more often…

It’s a race to the finish! Which will be completed first: One Seaport or One Beekman?

Or will the Apocalypse come before either are done?
