i agree with her sentiment but also the oneLIC proposal she supports wouldnt even have 30 percent of the units affordable, and we know most of the “affordable” units would be market rate and not deeply affordable

The Sunnyside Yard project is Amtrak’s fifth – and largest – major maintenance facility to advance into major construction over the past two years, following Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, and Boston.

That’s great and all, but it seems like it will be difficult to deck over? Are there no guidelines in max height that don’t preclude eventually building an entire new neighborhood over this yard?

Same thought.

My best guess is this sketch rendering isn’t to scale and doesn’t accurately depict the height of the building, or the project is being planned for a lower grade than the current which that shadowy ridge sort of ham-handedly suggests. It is hard to believe they would not be coordinating here to make this structure compatible with a future deck as well as required columns/foundations.

21 billion dollars is a crazy sum of money for a new platform here. They could finish the second ave subway with that kind of money and maybe still have some money left over.

Mamdani ran on a platform of building more housing, and here you have the opportunity to build two platforms - one for an infill train station and another to serve as a foundation for housing above the yards.

The three meanings of the word “platform” would all align here.

OK, enough semantics from me.
