New York City nonprofit files plans for 21-story, 350-unit resi building in the East Village

Community Access plans to bring a new residential building to the East Village.

The New York City nonprofit filed plans with the city’s Department of Buildings to construct a 21-story, 350-unit residential building at 743 E. 12th St.

A vacant church and a closed school with a large parking lot sandwiched between them currently occupy the site.

SCLE Architect’s Thomas J. Furman is listed as the architect for the new building.

The Archdiocese of New York sold the site, which was formerly home to Catholic school-and-church campus St. Emeric, in July 2024 for $35 million, according to city records. This is nearly half the amount the archdiocese hoped to receive, according to a court filing in June.
