The enlarged version of the photos posted by Koyimby give a good look at the original steel superstructure. There was a good question raised earlier on this thread: “was the steel beams riveted/welded or bolted.”

That post got me wondering if the steel super structure was ‘bolted’ together or put together with welds and rivets.

This is a nice simple and informative video on the ‘bolted’ method for steel beams/columns. After viewing the video I am guessing the steel original erection process for this building was welding and/or rivets.

I can’t see any of the large straps and template plates typically used with the bolt and nut method. My conjecture is the original steel was ‘riveted’.

Enjoy the video: I found the presentation to be absolutely “riveting”.

zoning diagrams from skyscraperpage

This looks like a Stern.

Not necessarily. The zoning diagrams can be quite different from the final massings and aren’t something to go by. SLCE is supposed to be the architect (maybe it changed), and they were working on a residential supertall already.

SLCE is probably just the “architect of record” not the design architect. SLCE actually worked on both 220 CPS and 520 Park with RAMSA.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was another RAMSA. Ultra high end residential, Related has hired them several times, and SLCE has been architect of record for them several times as well.

That would be nice.

Every article so far that mentioned them had them as architect/designer, we’ll see.

Traded might as well be inaccurate, but they claim they’re “leading the design”.

Unpopular opinion: don’t want RAMSA here, it’s getting repetitive. There are already enough beautiful artdeco looking buildings in that area.

There’s never enough beautiful Art Deco looking buildings, and a 1300’ tower would significantly block 432 Park Avenue from the north. That’s a repetitive facade that needs breaking up.

But speaking of repetitive, 800 Fifth Avenue will likely be another Stern tower.

Glad this is going quickly. It means there will be no super tall breaks, this will run right into the start of construction for 350 Park (and hopefully 175).

In the article it is written: “SLCE Architects has been reported as the “lead designer,” though it will likely serve as the architect of record. The main architect has yet to be announced.”

So it might indeed be plausible that it’s a first RAMSA supertall, and one of the tallest buildings in the city :eyes:

Just realized it’ll be 7th tallest in the current skyline, or 9th including the future 350 and 175.

And 80 feet taller than 2wtc’s roof :man_facepalming:

Crazy that 2WTC won’t even be in the top ten lol

And it was destined to be 2nd had Citi anchored it in 2012-2013 :man_facepalming:

Would’ve been overtaken by 432 just weeks later.
