My own renders of this building and other developments.
Iâm not sure how valid it is but the following site has the height listed as 1,663 feet.
That would be more in line with the developersâ claim that this will be the âtallest building in the western hemisphereâ, which previously didnât make any sense.
Edit: so I just looked at the original REW article from October 13 to double check the âtallest in the hemisphereâ claim, and now it says the tower is 1,663 feet.
That would put this even taller than the Grand Hyatt
Oh dang, this thing is gonna be even more dominating.
I get the feeling it wonât be long till someone pushes for 1,700 or higher. Are their any viable spots right now though?
2 WTC is the perfect spot, but it is not very likelyâŚ
Nah, I donât see that site going past 1,300 max. For financial and symbolic reasons. Unless it rose to 2001 ft that is
Not unless they build MetLife North to the original planned height and add a 500-foot crown/spire.
Would love to see that happen. 2 birds, one stone. Get rid of the current Metlife building, give us another classic to last 100 years.
I edited (fixed) New Yorkâs diagram with the proper heights of the two tallest buildings. Someone should add a real diagram to SkyscraperPage.
Sad to see 175 in 3rd place as thatâs one of my favorite designs, but theyâre far enough away and the size difference is small enough that it doesnât really matter.
They would have to rebuild the original core and then add another 70 stories on top of that. Itâs Art-Deco, so itâs New York, and itâs actually bolder and more elegant than the Empire State Building. A simple rebrand to the Metropolitan Tower or something similar so itâs not attached to any one corporate name and youâve got yourself a classic. Like you said, give the city a classic to inspire the next few generations, and by God, give some balance back to the eastern part of the skyline.
That looks amazing.
I know! I wish they would build it, especially in Art Deco stone.
New York really needs a mega tall!
I know itâs really arbitrary and kinda just a big **** measuring contests, but that doesnât stop me from wanting a massive mega tall in New York! Especially if itâs this beauty!
They need some masonry in the sky right now. Itâs easy to build glass and steel, they do it all the time, but going with masonry could make a much better product in the end. Going with masonry could end up being the choice that brings some degree of stability back to the look of the skyline.
