I was going to say as much, probably just decided to add it since they had it on hand still. But yes, Tower Fifth’s proximity to this tower definitely would have had some affects on the testing.
What’s going on with that site anyway? It’s still directly behind 350 Park Avenue right? Surprised nothing is happening despite it being such a large site.
Next block to the West, Eastern side
I have to ask, what’s the point of all of those wires on the wind tunnel model connecting to significant structures. Is it to simulate structural stability based on the math from the firms?
Tower Fifth’s site/actual footprint is relatively small. The tower itself had a small footprint.
Ahh makes sense. So the full project was just if the developer got the extra air rights he never got?
The wires are connecting all the sensors to the equipment that does all the recording. On the contrary, firms use the information generated by the wind tunnel test to further structural calcs, not the other way around. ![]()
I can’t quite recall what the bizarre situation was for that project since yes, not all of the sites were ever actually acquired. Your comment seems about right in that sense.
Absolutely unnecessary post, but that’s fucking cool!
When it comes to Real Estate development that ‘wow factor’ alone is an accomplishment worthy of high praise. ![]()
I would love to see the same aesthetic exceptionalism as wee see with the Taj Mahal or the Chrysler Building; but that is something that is a ‘Nice-to-have’ , not a ‘need-to-have’. IMHO
This new 350 Park, and 262 have that ‘something special’ the WoW factor.
BTW: If that is considered as ‘bad taste’ or ‘low standards’ by some: so be it. ![]()
I seriously hopes he doesn’t try to downsize 350. I would like to see it not only built, but taller than the Sears Tower.
This is a real finger on the pulse moment. Yes, we rely on corporations and billionaires to build us the skyline changing edifices we all love. But, man, what a petulant greedy bitch of a human.
He’s so whiny for a grown man
Billionaire Ken Griffin on Tuesday amplified his criticisms of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and suggested his investing firm Citadel would “double down” on Miami being the place for growth instead of Manhattan.
Griffin said Mamdani’s early tenure is forcing him to recall bad feelings he experienced in Chicago when Citadel was based there.
“Looking at what Mamdani just did to me, and more broadly is doing to the City of New York, is triggering of the trauma I went through in Chicago,” he said.
lol what an out-of-touch ass
The “trauma” ![]()

Mamdani seems to be the whiny individual. Why would Mamdani harass someone who brings so many jobs and philanthropic contributions to NYC? I actually feel Griffin is being restrained. I wouldn’t blame him for bolting for Miami like so many others are doing.
Yeah what a victim Ken is. Poor guy.
He’s no victim but neither is Mamdani. You’re missing the point. Griffin contributes much more to the city than he takes. Do you not agree?
I agree that’s quite an overstatement but I also agree that you can’t disrespect people who contribute so much to this city like Mamdani is doing. It’s unnecessary. What is he trying to prove? Other cities (like Miami) would gladly take all the money, jobs and philanthropy that Griffin has proven to generate. I would choose to be respectful and not to attack him.
Asking the unfathomably wealthy to pay a higher property tax is disrespectful. Shame on those that would have a man worth 50 billion dollars contribute a pittance more to help improve the lives of people trying to live on 30k a year.
Got it.
Another gem:
Steven Roth, the Vornado CEO, criticized Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York for his “tax-the-rich” rhetoric, which he likened to a racial slur or a pro-Palestinian rallying cry. “I must say that I consider the phrase ‘tax the rich’ — quote, tax the rich — when spit out with anger and contempt by politicians both here and across the country, to be just as hateful as some disgusting racial slurs and even the phrase, ‘from the river to the sea,’” Roth said.
