There are these caps on the columns on the north side of the site above the Grand Central entrance. Maybe they changed the tower column design and needed an adaptor?

Thats the tops of the columns, the column splice, its just covered in spray on fire proofing.

The entire foundation including the walls is now complete.
Yesterday was a busy morning erecting the first of the steel frame.
This building has a steel reinforced core similar to other skyscrapers in the city (IE One Vanderbilt, 1 and 4 WTC, and several others). The steel you were assuming there would be concrete will be encased in concrete.
