Noticed on the cams that the elevator appears to be coming down. Another milestone.:tada:

Beautiful :face_holding_back_tears: We’re nearing the end of an incredible 5+ years of construction of NYC’s latest skyscraper icon! If they keep with the Aug 25th date @JohnFloreville mentioned, perhaps the construction elevator will be gone next month…?

Spotted some foliage on the first setback.

The gradually squeezing into smaller diamonds due to the setbacks do the opposite of what a spire does. When it should be soaring the tower looks like it’s being compressed.

Yes. Overall I like the design of this tower, but the diamonds at the top create a less-than-pleasant “accordioning” effect. I would’ve much preferred the top two tiers to be elongated triangles. But it is what it is.

Exactly. The classical architectural desings with the diminishing size of the the spire as a tower rises creates the optical illusion of increasing distance: so the top (spire) looks farther away.

I was not sure what is was that looked ‘stumpy’ about the upper set-back levels of this building. That remark pretty much explained the visual effect of those Diminishing Diamonds.

That being said; the task of the designers (both engineering & architectural) can be daunting - there are so many competing factors to take into consideration: financial, structural, functional and finally the aesthetic considerations.

I think the cliche “dammed if you DO, and damned if you DON’T” must have been coined by a practicing architect.

If the top two tiers were hearts JPM would have a full house instead of a flush.

I just find it weird that the second tier diamonds are taller than the first tier. But overall this is a simple yet fantastic tower. How shocking that we got a final product that looks like the renderings

nail on the head. the change in proportions is not as harmonic as I would have liked, but the end result is still exceptional

Speaking of the diamonds, here’s another video posted yesterday of the cladding being installed on the upper tiers from 9 Mile Productions.

I appreciate the amount of detail these vids provide. I’d poop my pants a million times over trying to do what these people do.

There’s also some excellent shots of it lit up for July 4th.

The video gives us an incredibly good look at some of the LED modules on the cladding, particularly what looks like the bright white ones that they were testing for a while on the North and South sides.

Looking a little less Flintstone theme park with the addition of the trees.
