It does seem to be more warped than many other premium towers though. WTC and Hudson Yards buildings have clearer reflections generally

Odd. Some of the first photos the glass looked better. It’s my understanding the amount of rolling the pane gets after being formed determines quality.

Almost all glass has some waviness. I believe the degree to which it’s noticeable is influenced by a couple of factors:
-
The distance you are from the glass, and the distance from the glass to what’s being reflected in the glass. Greater distances effectively amplify otherwise small variations. I don’t think you’d see this waviness if you were closer to the glass.
-
How many high-contrast sight lines are nearby to provide high-contrast reflections. WTC buildings, for example, are mostly just reflecting sky when viewed from the ground. This building is surrounded by more buildings close by, which provide sharp contrast against the sky, making the waviness more obvious.

I’ve never seen a super clean reflection of a tower as good as a mirror. The cleanest are at a far distance, like 4 World Trade Center. I frequently see this wavy glass in NYC and Philly

Anybody know why they haven’t been installing on park or Madison sides? If they’re holding off on Park because the elevator is there, then I imagine it’ll be quite a while until we see anything on that side…
They’re probably just slowly wrapping around the tower, which is evident as I just passed by. No need to sporadically start on all sides, once they get to the elevators, they will most likely fill in as close as they can and leave the strip until the elevators comes down.

So far, the glass has been installed on the 47th street side only (it looks like 2 floors at a time); as TKDV said, they are probably wrapping around.

That was fast!

They are not wasting a minute!
The small fins are a nice touch; they work great, counterbalancing the massive columns.

Sorry if this has been asked before but do we know why they built the contraptions to install the facade vs how glass is usually installed? Is it due to the large floor heights meaning larger panels than normal?

What contraptions are you talking about, Mr. Spock?

It’s easier this way because some of the panels cant be stored on the floors they go on (there is other equipment taking up space on the lower floors) so they have to be hoisted down from several floors above.

It is quite a nice contraption.
This is what I’m talking about. The glass doesn’t look wavy from this distance. ![]()
