Just because it’s out of style doesn’t mean it’s not legitimate. As long as you don’t open it up to too much fanfare and generally keep quiet about it, the induced demand effect can be mitigated, and congestion can be reduced. As far as dividing communities is concerned, as long as this route is built in such a way as to minimize the amount of local streets that are cut off, it would be fine. Plus, one could argue that this area of Manhattan has been mostly gentrified anyways, and that if you want to live in cities, you will have some amount of pollution.

@mcart I am tagging you in this as well because this pertains to you as well.

Assuming this was built, would it create some traffic for the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges, while contrary will it alleviate some of the traffic for the Lincoln Tunnel and even the George Washington Bridge?

Especially the George Washington Bridge. Debatable when it comes to the Lincoln Tunnel.

Basically anyone in Brooklyn all the way up to the Queens-Brooklyn Border will likely look to this project. Even the armpit.

Oh yeah, definitely those boroughs including Manhattan. And the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges would be a lot busier. Also, I’m curious if it would affect the traffic for the FDR and West Side Highway.

Busier, but faster as local traffic doesn’t have to worry about through traffic as much.

Ah, that’s interesting. But depending on how deep underground the LOMEX plan is, would it affect how the subway runs?

12 total subway lines would be potentially impacted. As long as the cut for the expressway isn’t too deep, though? None would be impacted in practice.

Essex Crossing would likely be moved a block south in this plan.

In my plan, I would also make improvements to Seward Park, extending Hester Street and Jefferson Street to meet at the northeast corner of the park, and be transformed into a single, long street. North of this improvement, this is also where I would essentially move Essex Crossing to. Then there’s the issue of One Manhattan Square. I would likely move the main tower to where the affordable housing component is now, giving priority access to the displaced tenants for the new units along the Manhattan Bridge High Rises. Squeezing out just enough room for the final high-rise on the Manhattan Bridge, this plan would connect the private motor court with the planned community space for 247 Cherry Street and make the newly-combined space a perfect congregation point for the block.

A more detailed plan/account of the One Manhattan Square move:

- Rotation of the main tower, elevated terrace and motor court 3.8 degrees clockwise for those specific elements to become aligned with the eastern lot line.
- Translation of the main tower 91’ 3” to the east or until enough space has been cleared for the final planned concrete high rise on the Manhattan Bridge.
- Rutgers Park will be sacrificed and replaced with the previously razed affordable housing component, which will back up against the Lands End 2 complex.
- Frank T. Monica Way will be closed off, replaced with the western alignment of Rutgers Street.
- Close the eastern stretch of Rutgers Street on the western edge of the Laguardia Houses
- The reclaimed space will then be transformed into a good replacement for Rutgers Park.

All these improvements will serve as needed corrective surgery for an extremely fraught block of the LES and open up key space for the Lower Manhattan Expressway

Ah, that’s interesting especially for the tower

It would have to be an extremely slow move, it couldn’t happen overnight, but it could work. Like the Indiana Bell Company Building move or the Lagena Primary School Move in Shanghai. Just need to seriously brace the lower floors of the tower for the move, and perfect the balancing act.

Special credit goes to @Brady_Cloud for some of the assets in this model, @mcart for giving me the idea of developing a stadium of some kind at the World Trade Center, which I am still hammering out, and to the man himself, Minoru Yamasaki, for providing the basis for this new concept for the World Trade Center.
