It appears to shorten pedestrian crossing paths which is sometimes a major reason for doing these redesigns. Drivers can’t be trusted and the less time someone is spending crossing an intersection, the better. ---

The article was a bit unclear but did say this: _"Vincent Barone, a spokesman for the Transportation Department, declined to say why the work appeared to be delayed, or to provide a new timeline for the project._ _“The Mamdani administration has been working to deliver bus lane and busway projects across the five boroughs,” Mr. Barone said in a statement, adding, “We will be starting work on 34th Street in the coming weeks.”_ ---
