“The primary way this change could impact travelers is by limiting their options to freely change flights,” Scott Keyes, founder of Scott’s Cheap Flights, explained to T+L. “Currently, many airlines allow travelers to switch flights within a city code — say, from arriving in JFK to arriving in LGA — without a penalty. Removing EWR from the NYC city code could restrict that option for many passengers.”
“While the airlines who are affected by the change have been notified, it seems that someone else has been left out of the loop. When T+L reached out to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates all three airports, a representative said they had not heard about the change.”

Finally some news on EWR.
I expect the terminal renovation to finish at the end of the year. Airside construction is basically complete and the headhouse construction is showing signs of wrapping up - the road lines are being painted and the airline signs under the canopy are being tested. The Conrac is also moving along steadily and I expect it to be finished sometime in 2023.
Turns out, EWR is finishing up at the end of the year.

According to United, the terminal will be ready in early November and they will be a major tenant which also sounds incredibly unfair since they already have an entire terminal to themselves.

Things are beginning to wrap up here. Various exterior signage is live. Exterior work is moving steadily along and is starting to wrap up while interior work is steadily moving along. The airside camera has not been updated since August but sneak peeks through browsing images people put on google maps reveal that the airside stuff is largely finished.
This is pretty cool - the parking garage got some cool LEDs. There are also LEDs for banners that are going to be attached to the sides but they’re off right now.

More images of EWR, especially since they finally cleaned that one camera. Since they cleaned it, it was facing the garage, giving us a nice look at the overpass and the main facade.
Also finally a non-blurry look at the entire overpass.
On October 19th, 2022, I noticed a sign displaying ‘JetBlue and United’ so now we know for sure those two are moving in. So far, those are the only two on display.

Through some digging I found pictures of various places to get food in the new terminal. It offers us a glimpse inside. It looks ready to accept passengers.

This looks great. It appears that the news terminal can only accommodate narrow body aircrafts. Are there plans for anymore terminal upgrades at Newark? I think EWR needs a complete redo similar to LGA.

Not true with the “only narrowbody aircraft” claim. The gates in the red box are all widebody capable.
I do agree EWR should get an LGA treatment but it won’t happen. There was some conceptual stuff for a new Terminal B with a design that is more interesting than what we got for A - it’s pretty basic. Terminal A will be extended to connect to B as well when they decide to get to it. They still also have to do the airtrain but that has been pushed back and likely won’t be ready until the next decade.
These are the only “renderings” of what a new Terminal B would look like. There is no information on a Terminal C redevelopment.

Some **BIG** news regarding EWR Redevelopment just came out today.

Two very high-quality firms were selected for this so there’s a chance that Terminal B might be something actually really nice. It’s very likely in the near future we’ll see some new B designs and since SOM’s part of the team, something _good_ might be presented.

Alright, so as it inches closer to the alleged November 1 Opening, more inhabitants of Terminal A have been made known. American Airlines is joining jetBlue and United here since their signage just went live. I also see what might be Air Canada on a sign with American as well. Inside the terminal, work is wrapping up and self-check-in kiosks are also being installed. In the coming days, I anticipate more airlines show up on the remaining signage.
So far the following airlines are confirmed to be here based on the signage:
- jetBlue
- American Airlines
- United Airlines
- Air Canada
Arup also announces they’ll lead EWR redevelopment.

I just caught wind that the new terminal will have an open house for the press on November 15th. I am going to find out more when more info is available to me and what is required to attend.
Delta Air Lines will also eventually move to the terminal as well although later than the current inhabitants.

EWR ribbon-cutting is Tuesday, November 15th. There is no concrete date when flights begin to transition to the new terminal, however. It’s likely the Port Authority is waiting for after the holiday rush to move operations to the new terminal.
From my sources - this was likely an internal press release sent to various members of the press.
