Philadelphia is the same. I personally have no problem with it lol. I’d think you’d rather smell weed than the universal trash smell in the 1970’s

Promising “ambitious” TOD rezonings (starting p.64) – From p.66:
_The Mamdani administration will pursue policies that significantly increase housing capacity in areas with excellent access to mass transit, especially restrictively zoned and under-contributing areas. These efforts will represent a suite of complementary proposals, with both targeted rezonings and changes to underlying zoning text that address similar conditions across a much wider geography. Individual initiatives could include: • A citywide proposal that meaningfully increases the amount of housing allowed near transit across the city; • Extending to medium- and high-density areas the “qualifying residential sites” framework created for low-density areas as a part of the “City of Yes” zoning reform, which grants density bumps to certain sites close to transit; • Zoning changes in conjunction with transit improvements, like the Interborough Express (IBX) and new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes; and • Improvements to the Zoning for Accessibility (ZFA) initiative, which harnesses private development to support the MTA’s ambitious plan to achieve elevator accessibility throughout the subway system_

A little NY story/anecdote that just happened. I was at Central Park with friends and couldn’t watch the Knicks game live. I could check the scores on Google most of the night and because we were close to Summer Stage, I would know when they would score. Anyway, I was heading home and towards the 6 and it’s like the last minute of the game. I’m on 79th and Madison and a sushi place I walked by was closed. However, the owner and a random woman were watching the game on a laptop and the sound going thru the restaurant speakers. I watched from outside for a few seconds before both ushered me in to watch the Knicks clench it. We all bumped fists and hugged after they won and parted ways. I’ve walked by that place several times but never stopped in.
Anyway I’m sure experiences big and small were happening like that all over the city tonight. Thank you random kind New Yorkers for a cool moment.

My usually quiet neighborhood is so loud tonight. So many people on the streets cheering and honking. I think I’ve watched each game in different ways the last two weeks because I don’t have cable. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I saw something posted by L’Observatoire International, a lighting company in NY, on Instagram, and it seems a few weeks ago they were doing (or at least posted about) lighting experiments on a number of NY bridges, along with producing some concept art.

I wonder what this experiment was for, but I found it interesting, and I wonder if the MTA is considering doing a lighting project when they do repairs on the bridges.

I haven’t seen anything from the MTA regarding these, nor can I find additional photos, so it might have just been an experiment and nothing more, with the fixtures being removed after its conclusion.
