That’s just wishful thinking
The north and south sides are NOT identical and you can see the offset core in the renderings:
Look closely:
A 1300ft blank wall is gonna suck

We’ll see.
We all know that the north face will be the core but what we don’t know is how it will be treated. I’m hoping that the elevator banks will have windows and the rest of space will be covered with either false windows and/or additional glazing.
Foster does the highest level of finish for everything.
Between 425 Park, 350 Park and here, Foster & Partners is essentially pioneering this form: an offset core allowing for open floorplates that firms love and developers can make $$$ from. If massive blank walls become a staple of 21st Century New York architecture, that will be Foster’s real legacy.
Ugh 1400ft blank wall will not look good, don’t care how much they supposedly dress it up. I’d like to see a uniform “Shenzhen’ style skyscraper. Leave the massive blank walls for downtown Brooklyn lol.
yeah a lot of Foster’s work has imposing sheer walls for the offset cores… they don’t look good. 425 Park’s backside does not look good
False windows aren’t that bad. With these new reflective panels being used on HY, Manhattan west, etc., its hard to tell the opaque panels from the clear windows. It pains me to see high end projects like 425 park use metal cladding on cores when the fake windows are readily available, and the budget is high enough to afford them. I’m afraid foster just legitimately likes the look of a prominent core.
Brooklyn doesnt deserve your hate . All joking aside, i believe most of the prominent blank walls in brooklyn are lot line that will most likely be covered up by another building. I could be wrong though.
I live in Brooklyn and love it as much as the next person but won’t hesitate to call out its “faults” lol…cheers.
If they’re going to do an offset core they should go all-in on the industrial look with exposed glass elevator shafts, staircases, etc. Then paint them bright red and light them up at night, and now that offset core is a lot more dynamic.
I’m more worried about the offset core on 343 Madison, tbh. Kinda nervous that one’s going to be an ugly eyesore from the East River.
Don’t mention Shenzhen or any other Chinese city for that matter here. New York City is #1 by far. Thanks!
I agree.
It looks like the red elevator cars will be visible. Also, certain banks will not go up the whole tower since they will stop at lower floors. I would not be surprised if there’s outdoor space in those areas. This is a gorgeous tower.
“Why name it Pen15 if it’s a stack of boxes?”
Because it looks like it’s 15 floors.
I was looking at the plans and I’m wondering where the elevators are it will be glass in between them. Also it looks like they’ll be glass towards the right of the evaluators. I could be wrong but I don’t think it will just be cladding on the side like 425 park ave on the back.
I feel like the first proposal should be taken and used for the block to the north. You need a slick, tuxedo-like tower to balance out the terraces and edges of the latest design. Why they have two-story structures and fine-grained commercial buildings that would fit more into the likes of SoHo there is beyond me. Plus the fact that they contain shops you’d find in an outlet mall in phoenix doesn’t help. That doesn’t cut it in today’s midtown. It’s high time that block hit the update button, perhaps even more so than the Hotel Pennsylvania site. On that note, can we get someone to perhaps make a 1-1 recreation of the Hotel Pennsylvania somewhere in the immediate area?
