My favourite 60s international box
Since I have a collection about old NY myself, I know many of the pictures.
Today two historical maps of New York follow which I photographed from a very old book from 1854.
This is a reprint of a map from 1767, yes the cards are not gerädert in the best condition but Orginal.
1854
Comparison of irl with my 1964 NY midtown project ( I’ve got to redesign 237 park ave) also the irl pic is 1936
Another reason why this is probably one of my favorite threads on here:
When I’m taking photos I see all these older beautiful buildings overtaken by behemoths and titans. Sandwiched in between the new monoliths are these (not so little) treasures of NY past.
These older photos in this thread allow me to enjoy these buildings when they were perhaps the tallest in their neighborhood.
A standout recently when I saw these was the Paramount Building in Times Square. In my most recent photoshoot I see this building dwarfed by its newer peers.
This city was built in layers with so much human ingenuity, tenacity, and energy. It’s an incredible feat of engineering and humanity.
Updated entrance to 2 Chase Manhattan Plaza c. spring 1964
1 Chase Manhattan Plaza from Broadway & Cedar Streets c. 1965
Chamber of Commerce Building seen from the under demolition National Bank of Commerce Building c. spring 1965
The chamber of commerce is such a nice little building
The 1962 street map and photo of the construction of the old 270 Park Ave. Building are original from my private collection. Info to you 007 if you continue to post my pictures in the future then please with credit “Collection by Mackensen”.
These are photos of a German employee who was traveling on business in New York and Philadelphia in 1905.
Vacation photos from 1990 not from my parents.
Now follows a comparison between 1990 and 1905 with almost the same perspective.
When I do my inventory at the end of the year, I can see at a glance all my old New York pictures between 1850 and 2000.
