The emergency demolition of the unused building on the NW corner of 22nd St and 7th Ave that [burned down spectacularly in April](https://abc7ny.com/post/chelsea-fire-flames-engulf-vacant-apartment-building-manhattan-nyc/18874767/) is concluded. Just as the former building sat there unused for 27 straight years, this lot will probably sit there indefinitely, presumably with an additional lien on it. Too bad the lot can’t serve as a small temporary park in the meanwhile. It’s a rather small lot, so perhaps difficult to redevelop profitably? I wonder how much those cornices cost, I wouldn’t mind small portion of my tax money going to a subsidy fund to help restore cornices lol ---

I know many cornice are recreated in fibreglass or foam composites. Copper/zinc/lead cornice would obviously still be made in a traditional manner with sheet metal and wood frame. And a masonry cornice is a whole different thing. I’m no expert but it would not surprise me if the installation cost (labor, scaffold, heavy equipment) far outweighs the actual material cost of the fabrication, though that’s true of many things in construction. ---

There is so much construction going on in the Bronx right now that it’s incredible. There’s so much that it’s hard to keep track of. If you all ever get the chance to take the 4 train into the Bronx, you’ll see what I mean. ---
