Yeah, Baby put Congress in the corner. Momentum has been keeping us going but I think we’re going to see the whole thing start to wobble soon.
Progress on funding restoration: News 12 | New Jersey | Gateway Project funding talks underway as deadline approaches
Please let this be the last time we have to go through this for this project ![]()
Mickey Mouse administration. They illegally take congress appropriated funds > they get sued > they lose because it’s obviously illegal > money restored > they illegally take congress appropriated funds, again.
I can’t wait until all these fools are out
Best to not hold your breath on this. He’s still disputing 2020 results.
Here’s a video showing the latest status of the Portal Bridge as of yesterday.
It’s basically complete, and next month, work will begin on connecting the first track to the existing NEC.
At Tonnelle Avenue, traffic is being shifted to permit lane striping, and the TBM components continue to be delivered. Many of these components are arriving in shipping containers and are being stored below the road embankment.
Parts associated with the cutter head are being delivered separately and stored above and next to the road.
The new Portal Bridge is so beautiful. Can’t wait to ride on it soon.
I’m assuming there’s enough $ available to finish up the bridge.
The bridge is substantially complete. The last things needed to do are hook up the utilities such as elelectric, signals and connect the tracks.
the “punch list” items take as much time as the rest of the project
it’s like when you update Windows and the progress bar gets stuck at 99% LOL
“Substantially complete” does not mean what it used to mean.
As of this week, most of the 1st TBM’s components have arrived. The mystery object in the blue tarp that was delivered was the main drive unit for the cutter head. With most components on-site, the next step is to finish preparation of the launch box and assemble the TBM.
I was wondering whom these soon-to-be-laid-off construction workers voted for LOL. Oh well - good luck being unemployed!
I mean I’ll be thoroughly disappointed if the Gateway project goes on hold because this project is of utmost importance and needed badly, but I am not going to feel pity for those who voted for the Orange felon. They got what they voted for!
Construction shutdown has commenced
You can’t make this stuff up.
Actual clown show.
This is sitcom or mockumentary level stuff except it’s not funny cause it’s real life
This goes well beyond political parties at this point. I imagine this “demand” will only benefit the lawsuit to restore funding.
NYC infrastructure and development should not be held hostage because of personal feelings about the president. If stroking the ego of a toddler president leads to securing tens of billions of dollars from the federal government and/or leads to a brand new/revitalized Penn Station, you should do it. It is a no brainer. You can rename it to “Hilary Rodham Clinton and Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama Penn Station” afterwards. Easiest billions you’ll ever get, NY. Let’s go Chuck.
This article describes all the tasks that must be done to mothball the project.
Now, the project only has enough money left to pay crews to close up shop. And shutting down the work — spread across five job sites on either side of the Hudson River — will be a massive undertaking in and of itself.
Massive holes in the ground on Manhattan’s West Side and in North Bergen, New Jersey, must be backfilled. Fences must be built around the job sites, and around-the-clock security guards must be hired to keep out trespassers and vandals. A section of the West Side Highway in Manhattan dug up as part of the project and a bike lane that was rerouted must both be restored.
A part of the Hudson River’s bed, which was frozen and hardened with concrete in parts to support the new tunnels, must be converted back to its original state, officials said. The cofferdam, a massive barge-like operation set up in the middle of the river to install the concrete, will need to have lights and buoys affixed to it and must be maintained around the clock.
And a pair of massive boring machines the project ordered to carve out the 2.4 mile tunnel must be mothballed. Gateway officials currently have one of the machines, with another one slated to be delivered in March, and each was specifically designed to dig out different parts of the Hudson River tunnel.
The commission planned to eventually order two more boring machines for soft rock in the river bed.
Starace said if the shutdown continues for a long time, it won’t be easy to get work started again — in part because workers and project engineers will have found jobs on other projects.
“These are, these are skilled laborers, and we’re going lose them. You’re not necessarily going to get that talent back immediately,” Starace said. “Once this is resolved, it’s going to take a while.”
