NEW YORK | Domino Sugar Redevelopment | (4 Towers) | 591-170 FT

From REX Architecture on Instagram:

I’m surprised to see the cutouts made it through. It will be interesting as the sunlight moves through them during the day. I still would have liked a bridge connecting both towers up top.

The quality of the concrete work is top notch

Bar none, those are the sexiest slabs I’ve ever seen.

Yes, this does LOOK exceptional. We can see it is smooth, flat; and seems very dense. The concrete formwork is truly an art-form; albeit an often unrecognized and under appreciated art form.

If the slabs are all perfectly level, and the columns pefectly plumb: they get an A plus for great work with the reinforced concrete formwork. :star_struck:

AI excerpt -
Chat GPT what is Reinforced concrete formwork

Concrete formwork is the temporary (and sometimes permanent) mold or support system used to shape and hold reinforced concrete in place until it hardens and gains enough strength to support itself.

  • Concrete is poured in a fluid state.
  • Reinforcement (usually steel rebar) is placed inside to handle tensile forces.
  • Formwork is the structure that contains both of these in the desired shape while the concrete cures.
  1. Defines the shape and geometry
    Walls, columns, slabs, beams, etc.
  2. Supports loads during construction
Includes wet concrete weight, rebar, workers, and equipment.
  3. Maintains alignment and position of reinforcement
Ensures structural integrity and proper cover over rebar.
  4. Controls surface finish
Smooth, textured, or architectural finishes depend on the formwork material.

Does anyone know who’s doing the concrete work here?

Hmm a cursory Google search suggests Gotham Ready Mix? Although I’m unsure if they are just the suppliers or also the actual builders.

They do have quite a few projects under their belt including 100 Flatbush and 1 Bell Slip:

Yes, I do believe they are only suppliers. They don’t build.

Hmm. Could it be Defalco Construction?

Here is their website. It appears they specialize in concrete construction:

They have done many projects including 2 of the buildings at Domino Park (320-350 Kent and the Sugar Refinery itself):
