This sounds great. I’d like to see all garages redeveloped. There’s no need to drive into Manhattan.

This is why I call it bs to say congestion pricing will hit struggling NYers. It’s not struggling NYers that drive cars into Manhattan and those parking garages have been making a killing for years.

I can tell you in midtown south at least, traffic grinds to a near halt on a regular basis. It didn’t used to be this bad all the time.

I might get flack for this but I do have concerns on the wider impact when it comes to businesses and just the hit on the common man and woman.

I do hope they give exceptions to taxi drivers and even truckers, just due to the local (potential) impact on the econony.

In the end though, a lot of this will just be translate back to the consumers. I can understand private vehicles joy riding but hopefully there is a scheme for reduced rates for say commuters who have no choice to drive in.

I hope the NJ and Staten Island lawsuits push this back. I don’t think the people are ready to have another tax imposed on them to account for bad MTA management.

I also wonder if employers are going to factor this in when it comes to compensation packages, really for those folks that truly can’t take the train in.

</div>

The final rates have not been determined. But there will be special lower costs for taxis and ride services, and for residents of the central city. Other categories are likely to arise. Tolls will be collected using EZPass and license numbers. (That probably will result in a lot of counterfeit plates.) The benefits for lower income folks will be slow to appear because the funds will be used to support transit. And we all know how long it takes the MTA, Amtrak, NJ Transit, and Metro North to get anything completed. But over the long haul this has to happen. Other cities (notably London which just enlarged the area covered) have certainly benefitted.

</div>

I sort of agree that New Jersey people shouldn’t have to pay a second large toll to get into the city if using the Lincoln and Holland, or at least get a steep discount imo.

</div>

The point is unless you have some kind of handicap, nobody ‘has to’ drive into Manhattan. There are plenty of park and ride facilities. I know they get full and they will have to be expanded. It’s currently cheaper for NJ residents to take public transit into town as opposed to driving due to tolls and parking so the whole argument about expense is already nil.
